Workplace Wallcovering: Corporate and Office Interiors
Offices mix low-wear meeting rooms with busy corridors, break areas and reception. This page lists the documented properties to compare when you consider Koroseal commercial wallcovering for corporate interiors.
What to look for
- Type by area. Koroseal describes Type I for "low-traffic areas, like ceilings or office meeting rooms" and Type II for "hallways and lobbies" (see the Type guide).
- Indoor air documentation. CDPH Standard Method V1.2 (2017) is the emission testing method for California Specification 01350. Koroseal's VOC certificate for a Type II non-woven product reports compliance for the school classroom and private office scenarios.
- Disclosure for certification projects. LEED v4.1 counts EPDs and material ingredient reports such as HPDs and Declare labels toward its Building Product Disclosure and Optimization credits. Koroseal publishes an EPD and HPD for its PVC-free Type II non-woven products (see the PVC-free guide).
- Fire test results with their conditions. Koroseal Type II fact sheets report ASTM E84 Class A on GRC board with A-848-B adhesive and NFPA 286 "meets requirements" on 5/8 in Type X gypsum board with A-848-B adhesive. The required class depends on occupancy, location and sprinklers; confirm with the authority having jurisdiction (see the fire ratings guide).
- Cleaning. Koroseal's cleaning instructions call for soap, detergent and water, with a liquid household cleaner for stains.

Documents for a submittal
Koroseal's 09 72 00 specification asks the contractor to "submit a sample of each type and color to be installed for the architect's approval" and a manufacturer's certification that the wallcovering meets the specification, and states that the manufacturer shall certify at shipment that the material meets its published ASTM E84 flame spread and smoke development ratings. For each Koroseal family, the documents usually available are the fact sheet, the 09 72 00 specification, cleaning instructions, hanging instructions and, for many Type II lines, an EPD, an HPD and a VOC emissions report. Request the set that matches the exact backing (woven or non-woven) you will buy.
Site conditions
Koroseal's 09 72 00 specification asks for a constant temperature of at least 60 F in the installation areas "for at least seven days prior to and throughout installation period and for seven days thereafter," storage above 55 F with rolls flat and not cross stacked, wall moisture no higher than 4%, and permanent building light during installation. It also calls for an inspection after the first three strips. Build these conditions into the schedule before the wallcovering arrives.
Questions to confirm for your project
- Which areas need Type II rather than Type I?
- Is the project pursuing LEED or another program, and which documents does the consultant need?
- What fire class does the AHJ require for corridors and exits?
- Will the wallcovering go over new gypsum board? Koroseal recommends a primer on new drywall.
- What lead time fits the schedule, and when are samples needed for approval?
Questions
- Do I need Type II in a private office?
- Not necessarily. Koroseal describes Type I for low-traffic areas such as office meeting rooms. The designer of record sets the type for each area.
- Which document shows low VOC emissions?
- Ask for the VOC emissions certificate tested to CDPH Standard Method V1.2 (California 01350). Koroseal fact sheets also state CA 01350 compliance for schools and offices.
- Does Koroseal publish a CSI specification?
- Yes. Koroseal publishes a Wallcovering Architectural Specification under section 09 72 00 for vinyl and PVC-free wallcovering.
